When we received a text from George 'Phelps' Newman last week saying '6 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 World Records. Well done Team GB' - we thought he meant that was the medal haul for the whole team.
Only when he rocked up at the club on Sunday clutching 7 medals, did we realise that was just his tally!
He'd been competing in the World Transplant Games, in Göteborg, Sweden, and won everything in the space of 2 frantic days.
He won Gold in the 200M and 400M Freestyle, 50M Fly, 100M Breast, 4x50M Medley and Freestyle Relay, and a Silver in the 50M Breastroke (he was gutted - he missed out on Gold by 0.06 of a second!).
He then won the honour of being voted the most outstanding competitor in the games.
'I can't quite believe it. I'm delighted. I hadn't trained as hard as I'd have liked to - but that might have helped. I didn't get that nervous before my races and just gave it my all. And to be given the outstanding athlete award was the icing on the cake.
But I'll have to work on that 50M Breastroke to make sure I don't get pipped next time!'
George had to raise his own funds to make the trip - but it was well worth it
The United Kingdom team topped the medal table in all sports, with a staggering 115 Golds.
Well done George - a truly fantastic effort. And we see there's events for one group aged 77-99 - so you've got a few years of competing left yet mate!

National Arena Swimming League
The last round of this years competition saw GSC back at Eltham for the "B" final of division 2. Knowing there would be some tough opponents we gathered together a strong team with the help from some our senior University attendees. The result was an outstanding win, putting us 9th overall in the division. A super achievement considering we only just qualified into division 2 this year. Well done to swimmers of the meet Cassi Hoyle and Ammin Naqvi .
